Here is a short video where the creator discusses her product and how to use it in your home.

As you can see, the premise is that we will be able to teach the virtues - the gifts of The Holy Spirit - by both modeling them as parents, and rewarding our children when they display them in their daily interactions.

I was happy to receive our sample Honor Plate.  It came well packaged in a form fit Styrofoam package to prevent cracking.  The plate is sturdy and appears durable.

I was also given the Table Thyme "Let's Talk" discussion starters which you will see in the photo below and I will explain later in this post.

Family Honor Plate
I opened the box and found all of the above mentioned items.  The plate which includes the inner art, paints, palate, brushes, instructions, and a sample packet of discussion cards all arrived in perfect condition.

We were ready to create our part on the outer edge, so we took some time to think about what we wanted our work to convey.  We chose some pictures that symbolized The Holy Spirit.  Unfortunately, art is not our forte, but I think the dove, fire, and heart are all recognizable.

Next, we chose a passage of Scripture.  We decided upon the one where Jesus made this promise about the Holy Spirit to His Apostles,
I will ask the Father and He will give you another Advocate to be with you always. - John 14:16
This is how it looked before it went into the oven. The colors are a little dull before baking.

I will suggest against lettering this small with younger children.  It took a few tries to make it legible, even with the smallest brush, so I finally grabbed one of my eyeliner brushes to get it just right.  The good news is, if you goof up before the baking, you can wash the paint off, and do it over again.

To make the paint a permanent glaze, put the plate in a cold oven, then set the temperature to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.  Allow it to bake for thirty minutes, then turn the oven off, but leave the plate inside until it is cool.

Here is our finished product in its display stand.  It definitely brightened up and looks quite nice!

Family Honor Plate
Not only is it attractive, but it is a good reminder to exercise love, kindness, patience, and self control, and to live in an attitude of joy, peace, gentleness, and goodness.  These are the gifts instilled in us at Baptism, and sealed at Confirmation.  We all have them, but not all to the same measure. The good news is, these virtues can grow and become second nature to us with practice.

I want to be the model of these fruits and I strongly desire my children to become men of virtue as well. Here is a sweet and gentle way to remind them.

Another great product offered by the company are the Table Thyme "Let's Talk" Discussion Cards.

Get your children talking to you with these simple conversation starters.  The questions presented on the cards cannot be answered with a single word.  They require an actual sentence, which can provide and opening to a dialogue that might last during your entire dinner time.

Let's Talk Table Thyme Cards
Not only are they thought provoking, each question is followed with, "Why?"

Here are some sample questions:
  • Describe a time when you were scared.  Why?
  • Do you prefer sunny or snowy vacations?  Why?
  • Share something that happened today that you are grateful for.  Why?
  • When is it the most peaceful in your home?  Why?
I think tools like this are a great way to get to know your children better, and to understand their behavior.  The cards areavailable for $19.95 and orders of three or more include a discount.
