This Friday, a movie about the Apostles Paul and Luke will be released in theaters across the country.  Just in time for a meaningful Holy Week or Easter season activity, Paul: Apostle of Christ will be available to view on the big screens.

As the title suggest, the focus is on telling the story of Paul.  He was originally the one persecuting Christians, but later become a great Apostle and the author of the letters we read in The New Testament of the Bible.

This is also a story about Luke, the Gospel author.  He knew he had to reach Paul who was in prison and surely nearing death. This is the setting of the film.  Luke was also the author of The Acts of the Apostles, and this is likely what the origin of that book looked like.

To quote the publicist:
In PAUL, APOSTLE OF CHRIST , Luke risks his life to visit Paul, who is held captive in a Roman prison under Nero’s rule. Together, they struggle against a determined emperor and the frailties of the human spirit in order to live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ and spread their message to the world.
I have not seen an advanced screening of the movie, but  I plan to see it next week.

Here is an official trailer.

You will find more video clips on the website and the AFFIRM Films YouTube channel.

Please, take time to visit the website that I have linked in the bullet points.  You will find a great deal of resource material.  Anyone can benefit from the resources, but it will especially helpful if you would like to use the movie as the base of a group study.

One of my favorite bonus items are the audio and video offerings.  James Faulkner, who plays Paul in the film, reads from The Letters of Paul.  They have been released gradually during the Lenten Season, and there are still three left.  Once they are posted, they remain on this page, and the audio is available for download, if you would like to keep the selections on your digital device for inspiration.

The producers were very mindful about how they developed the story.  They went to great lengths to maintain Biblical accuracy.

I hope you will enjoy this movie and the internet bonus materials.  Although thousands of years have passed, the themes found in Paul, Apostle of Christ are still important to focus on today.

Even though we see suffering, pain, and evil all around, "where sin abounds, Grace is more".  As Paul and Luke remind us in their writings, no matter the trouble Love is the only solution.
