Time Island - Safe Online Fun for Kids - A Review and #Giveaway (Ends 8/21) #TimeIsland

Time Island
Digital Entertainment seems to be a hot topic on my blog these days!  My boys have always loved computer and video games, and while I am strict about time and content, I am glad that they are so comfortable with computers.

All of the websites that they use are mother approved, and I've just added another one to the list. Time Island is an interactive site with games and some social features, too.  It's target audience is children ages 6- pre teen.

What I really like about Time Island is that they are dedicated to children's safety.  This is a snip from the Parent Zone page.
On Time Island the underlying theme is survival in nature, which is conveyed through the multitude of virtual world activities as well as a variety of do-at-home activities.  The Time Island team is committed to providing a clean and safe environment for your child as he or she meets, communicates and plays with other children from across the globe.

Curse words are automatically banned from Time Island, while site managers ensure that Time Island is free of cyber-bullying and other inappropriate subject matter. Children and parents will be warned if rules of behavior are broken, and if need be a child will be removed from the site.

Strict guidelines promoting appropriate and non-threatening behavior will be diligently enforced to protect your child.
The site is in it's BETA stage, so it still has a few kinks to work out - like slow loading pages -  but the premise is fun.  The players are stranded on Time Island and need to survive.  You can visit the Time Island site, set up a free account, and give it a try.

Once you've created an account, you can make an avatar, which is always fun.  Then you will choose where you'd like to go.  once you get onto the Island, there are various activities.   The games seem to be the biggest hit, but there are survival things that must be done as well.  Each character has their own area to to tend to, and a survival kit to use and add items to.

There are games throughout the island.  This game required moving adjacent pieces to make chains.

The activities were carefully constructed to help enhance eye hand coordination, critical thinking, and other skills.   The experience is meant to be fun, educational, and to promote social skills.
Time Island is a place of wonder and adventure. Your survival skills will be put to the test as you explore white beaches and lush jungles; tree-top terraces and dark underground caverns.

You will have to outsmart, out maneuver and outlast the troublesome green creatures that inhabit the island, known as the Goggs.

Meanwhile, it’s a good idea to stick together so you and your friends can create and join a tribe. Survival is always easier when you’re not alone. To survive you must also care for your cleanliness and hygiene, and keep your avatar well fed.

Most importantly, keep your eyes open and your wits about you. Around any bush and behind any rock, even in the giant trees and hidden in the darkest corners of the caves, you will discover countless games and activities.

To survive on Time Island is a challenge, but the fun is even greater!
