Playful Planet is a DVD made for children ages 3-8.  Led by Ahmed Fahmy, the children will open their imaginations through his story telling, while adding yoga poses and simple exercises to enhance the story.

Playful Planet DVD

The DVD has two story choices.  The fist is Condor Trek.  The children "find" some Condor eggs, and when they learn that the great Condor is endangered, they carefully return the eggs for safe keeping.  The video is shot outdoors, and the children are just adorable as they interact with the tale.

The other choice is Save the Whale. In this session Ahmed tells the children about a stranded, beached whale.  As you would expect from the title, the kids save him.  They have to overcome some obstacles, and meet some other sea friends along the way. Finally, they do a "Moon Dance" and use the tide to help return the whale to the sea. This is all done right on the beach, which is a nice touch.

The stories promote green concepts. (like electric cars, protecting animals, and keeping the ocean clean) It also addresses some safety concerns.  (such as wearing seatbelts and sunscreen)  The stories include the use of imagination, magical thinking (like the moon dance), and there is mention of a mermaid, too.

Young children enjoy the story telling, and the moves are easy enough for even very little ones to follow.

I've always liked yoga exercises for myself.  In spite of my joint and muscle ailments I can do some simple moves and it's a great way to do some physical activity.

My sons have Asperger Syndrome and need extra help with core muscle development, balance, and gross motor coordination.  Yoga is great for these problems, too.
