VeggieTales: The Little Drummer Boy

A few weeks ago, I shared that Big Idea Entertainment had released the new Christmas DVD, The Little Drummer Boy, for sale through their website.  This week it was released in stores, too.

I received a copy for review, and I the boys and I watched it together. Junior Asparagus stars as a young boy who loves to play drums.  Poor Junior!  Through a misunderstanding he believes that his friends have gone Christmas caroling without him!  He is not very happy about the prospect of spending the time he was supposed to be enjoying with his friends with his grandfather instead!

However, since he has "nothing else to do" he relents and listens to a story his grandfather wants to tell him.  As the story of Aaron and his family unfolds, Junior's heart softens.  He learns about the power of forgiveness, love, and hope.

After Roman soldiers destroy his home and his family is torn apart, Aaron is determined not to care for anyone except his pets .  To make matters worse, he is taken advantage of when some strangers use his amazing talent as a drummer for their own gain.  To make matters worse, they sell his camel, too!  Aaron rushes to find his lost pet, and finds something even more precious when he comes upon the manger scene, and the newborn baby Jesus.  He is also reunited with his family.

The Veggies do not disappoint.  The message is delivered, along with fun songs, silly humor, and an intermission Silly Song, The 8 Polish Foods of Christmas.  The reunion at the end was remarkably neat and tidy, but I allow some latitude when the movie is about talking vegetables who can levitate objects instead of using hands.

Parents of very little ones should be aware that the scene with the Roman soldiers does lead the viewer to believe that Aaron's parents have been killed, and their home is burned.

Bonus features include the silly song, a music video, a visit to a drum factory with Junior, singalong songs, and an interactive book preview.

Also included in my review package was the new VeggieTales® Christmas CD, O Holy Night.
The CD features eleven Christmas favorites, Veggie style. The Little Drummer Boy is sung with Bebe and Cece Winans.  Other guest artists include Wynonna Judd, Steven Curtis Chapman, Amy Grant and Matthew West.
O Holy Night CD
These tracks are also brand new, and have not been released before.

The CD can be purchased through the VeggieTales® website for $9.99, or as part of a special offer with two Christmas DVDs.

There are also some new toys that are based on this theme of The Little Drummer Boy.

I received a copy of this DVD and CD in order to write an informed, blogged review of the products.  I was not paid to write this post and my opinions are genuine.
