My Thoughts:
As a stay at home mom, who homeschools, I spend a lot of time in my kitchen.   Obviously, I do my cooking and baking in the kitchen, but it is also my classroom, my teacher's desk.  Switching from one mode to the other requires me to be diligent, or else "flat surface disease" takes over and quickly spreads.  I can no longer find anything beneath the piles of books, papers, mail, writing utensils and electronics.

Several times each day, I need to clear the counters of clutter, wipe them down, and add decorative touches.  When I've finished, I would often scan the room with a smile, feeling rather pleased with myself...  Eat your heart out June Cleaver!

...Until my gaze fell upon the area beside the sink, over the dishwasher that (used to) hold the collection of empty containers - rinsed and ready for recycling.  (cue the sound of the needle scratching across the record, and the close up of Mom with a horrified look on her face)

Almost every house I visit has one of these spots.  My mother keeps hers at the end of the counter above the trash, my sister's spot is to the left of her sink.  One friend has a plastic bucket.

Isn't it funny?  We all want our kitchens to look nice, but most of us have a collection of milk jugs and tin cans that sit out in plain sight until somebody takes them out to the recycling bin.  Not long ago, we used to refer to these items as "trash".  Now, they sit on our counters like modern art.

The innovative minds at Rubbermaid have come up with a solution.  The Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler.

It comes neatly packaged with three main pieces; the bag which is made from 65% recycled material, the handle, and the lid. (the plastic used is fully recyclable)

The easy to follow instructions and door hooks will be found inside the bag component.

The bag slips onto the handle unit easily.  There are tabs with slots which slide right over the plastic tabs like this:

For over the door use slide these pieces into place on the lid piece.  (if using screws - the instructions are included, but the screws and tools required are not)

It all comes together quite nicely and hangs over the door like this.

There is ample room inside.  A gallon milk jug fits easily.  When the bag is filled with up to eight pounds of recycling, I can just grab the handle and lift the bag up and out as the woman is doing in this photo.

The bag easily empties into a larger receptacle.  It can then be machine washed or wiped down and put back in place to hold more recyclables.

This is such a great product.  It is perfect for the already passionate recycler, who would like her kitchen counter space back, and also for the reluctant ones.  The families who would recycle, but they don't want that mess in their kitchen.  It keeps the process neat and out of the way.  The unit itself is subtle, and won't be an eyesore if the cabinet door is opened.

I was given my own Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler in order to write an informed, blogged review.  I was not paid to write this post, and my opinions are genuine.
