Liberty Science Center - Special Needs Day is April 30th - #Autism #NY #NJ @GotSci

Liberty Science Center Special Needs Day 00
If you are the parent of a special needs child, or children, you have probably missed out on at least one thing you wished your kid(s) could have enjoyed, but you didn't want to chance the meltdown or the anxiety attack once you arrived.  It's a very heartbreaking feeling.

Here are my kids on the way to one of their public school field trips.  I was trying to coax them to smile, but you can probably see that they are not having a typical child's excited reaction to a class trip.  The stress was coming off of them in waves!

Pumpkin Patch 10-06

Our Friends at the Liberty Science Center in New Jersey don't want any kids to miss out on the wonderful exhibits and activities they have to offer.  In December, they had their first Special Needs Day, and it was a a fantastic success.

By limiting admissions, turning the lights up a bit, and lowering the volume, the facility is much easier on the senses, and far more pleasurable for kids who are prone to sensory overload.  And - if for some reason, your child has a "moment", imagine how nice it would be if everyone in the room smiled in empathy?

What is even more amazing, is that they are offering this day for free.  Yes, you read that correctly, admission is free.  Programs run from 9AM -4PM and there will be plenty of staff on hand to help families have a great time on this special day.

Please take note that admission is limited to 1200 people, and there are already over 700 booked... so if you would like to attend please call quickly so that you won't miss out on this opportunity.

Interested readers MUST REGISTER ahead by calling Mary McDonald at 201-253-1310.

The day will include free science workshops, free films (offered with lights on and at a lower volume and one with closed captioning), tabletop walk-up science activities, and hundreds of hands on exhibits.

If you haven't been to Liberty Science Center, here are some of their signature attractions.
