In A Heart Like His, author Beth Moore examines the life of David and then correlates the lessons of David to modern life.  She does this in an easy, conversational style of writing, using plain speech.  This helps the book flow, and encourages introspection.  When she writes, "What do you think about that?"  I stopped to consider what I thought about the question.

Fifty-two Chapters are broken into nine sections.  Each section begins with a Psalm.  The chapters that follow examine David and his life.  Starting from his birth, and ending with his death, the book covers all of the well known facts and stories, and some of the lesser known, too.  As I mentioned, there are plenty of opportunities for reflection and study.  This is a book to be enjoyed slowly, and pondered. It is written from a non denominational/Protestant position.

If you have the workbook that's a bonus.  If not, there are study questions in the back of the book.  You'll also find an exerpt from Beth's Bible Study Book, David:  Seeking a Heart Like His

From the publisher:
We all go through times when we feel insignificant or times when we feel certain that we have experienced a degree of failure from which there is no return. This is not a reality we experience alone, but is one that a man after God’s heart experienced as well. From shepherd, to refugee, to king of Israel, David exhibited the purest virtues and the most heinous sinfulness, but through it all his relationship with the Lord continued to grow.
A Heart Like His looks at this bond of mutual love and admiration between a man who was not unlike any of us and the one true God who is all good and all powerful. Beth Moore walks us through an exploration of David’s incredible life, drawing spiritual insights from a man who boldly fulfilled his divine destiny not merely by what he did, but who he loved and served. Bringing lessons from David’s life to bear on your own, this picture of a man who loved and followed God will help you to serve with a heart focused on Him no matter the circumstance.
