I think most people have a specific time of the day when the urge to snack is the strongest.  For me, I usually feel a little bit tired, it is in between meals, so I am kind of hungry, and quite often, I'm either bored, or looking for a distraction from a task I'm not particularly thrilled to be doing.

I hate to be a walking cliche, but most times, I satisfy the craving with chocolate, or something chocolate in it.  It serves the purpose, but those chocolate chip cookies and peanut butter cups aren't exactly health food.

Have you ever lamented that if only chocolate were good for you, it would make life so much easier?  I certainly have!

Now I will let you in on my latest discovery.  Chocolate that is healthy!  These Superfood Snacks really are chocolate!  Now, this is not the bar you would pick up in the check out aisle of the store.  It is raw chocolate.  The way it is before it goes to the factories and gets mixed up with all of the other stuff.

The Superfood Snacks are made on the island of Kauai.  The ladies who developed these treats that they call Energy Nuggets originally prepared them to take along on hiking excursions. Combining ingredients that were packed with nutritious vitamins and minerals as well as powerful antioxidants allowed them to travel light but also meet all of their nutritional needs and stay energized.

Once day, they met some fellow hikers who were too worn out to go on.  They shared their snack mix, and in time, the group felt revitalized, and continued on their way.  When they met up later, the new friends could not stop raving about how they felt, and asked if the women would share their recipe.  A lightbulb clicked on, and a business was born.

As you can see, the individual nuggets are rather small.  But just two bite sized pieces can provide an energy lift, and fill me up with a whole day's worth of antioxidants.

There are four varieties:
Green Chocolate Dream, Chocolate Goji Treats, Brazilian Chocolate Ecstasy and Chocolate Cherry Qi. You can see them all pictured above, and their antioxidant content compared to other foods is depicted below.

The treats are certified gluten free, raw, vegan, and organic.  The non-gmo wildcrafted ingredients include: Raw Cacao, Goji Berries, Hunza Raisins, Maca Root Powder, Sunflower Seeds, Coconut, Cayenne Pepper, Cinnamon, Walnuts, Dates, Sesame Seeds, Deep Sea Salt, Vanilla Beans, Schisandra Berries, Agave Nectar, Cordyceps and Reishi Mushroom, Brazil Nuts, Incan Berries, Mango, Blue Green Algae, Lucuma, Bananas, Cherries, Pumpkin Seeds, Chia Seeds, and Chlorella Powder.

The result is a dense, dark chocolate flavor with many different textures and undertones.

I should also mention that the ladies have packaged their products in NatureFlex, non-gmo, sustainable sourced biodegradable and compostable material.  These bags can be taken on a hike, eaten, and the bag can be buried and left behind without harming the environment.

The Superfoods company has very graciously offered to allow a giveaway of one sampler package, which includes one bag of each of the flavors.

The bags each have six nuggets, and are sold for $8.99 per individual package.  The sampler pack is sold for $35.96.
