A sunburn sure can put a damper on warm weather fun, can't it? When I was in High School, I worked as a lifeguard during the summer, and I definitely had my share of overexposure! We still spend at least three or four days a week poolside, and when the weather is nice, it is nice to be outdoors.

I try to be careful.  In addition to my desire to avoid surface discomfort, I also have lupus, and too much sun can make it flare.  I apply sunscreen, try to keep to the shade, and time our outings for early afternoon or evening.

Even so, I still get a least one minor incident every year.  This is my most common type of burn:

I also have been known to crisp the tops of my ears when I put on a headband or pull my hair back.

This is when everybody around chimes in with their favorite home remedy for sunburn relief.  (As a result, I can tell you a lot of things NOT to do!)

I did have a good experience with Sunburnt® Therapeutic After Sun Relief.  It comes in a tube, and dispenses as a clear gel.  It is fragrance free, and uses natural ingredients in an Aloe Vera base to soothe painful skin.  (no stinging from lidocaine!)

Try to use  this as quickly as possible after periods over exposure.  It provides a wonderful cooling sensation to overheated skin.  Burned skin will benefit from soothing hydration, and it may also help minimize peeling.

The manufacturer suggests this is best for ages 2 and up and advises pregnant or nursing mothers to get a doctor's approval before use.  Simply apply to the affected area and rub it in until it absorbs.  Continue to use the gel regularly until the skin is healthy again.

Sunburnt® gel is for external use only, if you have a serious burn with blisters or oozing, consult a physician.  Do not allow the gel to get near eyes or open wounds, and of course, if you have sensitivities to any of the ingredients, this is not for you.

I have been given permission to offer one tube of Sunburnt® Gel for giveaway.  If you would like a chance to win, please enter using the RaffleCopter form below.  Be careful to follow the directions - I do verify!
