How Does the VeraTemp Thermometer Work?

This device measures the infrared energy that is coming from the skin of the patient.  Simply aim the sensor a few inches from the forehead, push the button, and get a reading.

As you can see in the photo below, all of the functions are easy to find, and are clearly labeled.

The largest button is placed where my thumb naturally rests so holding the thermometer is comfortable.  It is also very light weight.  I can walk into a dark bedroom without having any trouble finding the right button.

The unit defaults to reading body temperature, which also makes middle of the night operation easier.  However, if I would like to read the air temperature to make sure a room is not too cold or too warm - or if I want to read the temperature of a surface (perhaps bathwater, food, or a playground slide), I can use the first small button labeled "mode".   Switching from Fahrenheit to Celsius is done with the small center button, and the last small button provides access to the memory, which stores the last 32 readings taken.

Another nice feature is the led light used in the display.  Notice in the images below how the temperatures are backlit.  The normal, healthy temperature has a green background.  I tend to run low grade temps with my lupus and fibromyalgia so mine came up on a yellow-orangey background.  When my temps go above 101 the light glows red.  Unfortunately, I can't seem to get a good photo of that.

I would also like to show an example of the accuracy.  My thermostat shows that the living room was 68 degrees.  When I used the VeraTemp to measure the room temperature the result was 68.7 degrees.
