What is So Great About Seafood?

Seafood is a natural source of Omaga-3 Fatty Acids, and most of the current information available shows that these are great for our heart, joint, and brain health.  For example studies say that Omega 3's may:
  • Promote heart health
  • Decrease blood pressure, triglycerides, and cholesterol levels
  • Improve arthritis and joint pain
  • Lessen symptoms of depression and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Support eye health
  • Enhance brain growth and development
  • Aid brain growth in unborn babies, infants and kids
  • Decrease the risk for certain cancers
  • Reduce the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease
The problem most people have with incorporating more fish into their diets is the preparation.  Gorton's has taken care of that part for us.  With so many great varieties, and lots of easy and unique recipes on their website, dinner planning is easy and the results are delicious.  Visit the website for information about the health benefits and tips for your family.

For this review, I decided to treat myself to something I don't normally eat, Garlic Butter Shrimp Scampi.  It was so easy to prepare, and only 120 calories per serving!  I put it over fettuccine and  added some steamed broccoli, and it was still a low calorie, mostly healthy meal with only five grams of fat.

It was so easy to prepare.  I took the shrimp straight from the freezer, and cooked it right on my stove top.  (It is also microwavable)  I made a single layer of frozen fish, and cooked them at a medium temperature.

Within a few minutes, the sauce began to melt and bubble.  The shrimp was cooking evenly.  I had to stir it occasionally to prevent sticking, but otherwise, the best part of my meal was making itself.

I had decided I would add the shrimp to some pasta, so I boiled some fettuccine, and when it was ready, I drained the water and combined the two.

The end result was a sumptuous, restaurant style dinner, and it was ready in about 15 minutes.

There are many other great choices waiting in your grocer's freezer.  There are over 20 choices under 200 calories per serving, and many are gluten free.  Their grilled selections are fantastic!
