Around here - if somebody suggests playing a game of Charades during a party or gathering, there is a collective groan. I will admit it. I hear Charades, and I think "boring".  Reverse Charades has changed all of that! This game truly is the opposite of Charades in every way - especially in the fun department.

The twist in the game is this.  Instead of one person standing in front of the room, a group will all act out the subject, and only one person is trying to guess.  It is a riot, and looks something like this:

There is also a Junior Version, with topics that are easier for kids to act out.  French and Dutch Stand Up! and Get Moving! editions are also available.

To Play the group breaks up into teams, and there is a goal set. The object of the game is to guess as many words as possible before the one minute timer runs out.  The goal might be the first team to guess 20 words, or which team has the most words after 5 rounds.  It's really up to you.  The directions are even fun - they encourage players to have a good time, make up their own rules, and to do whatever makes the most sense for the group that's playing. .

I loved this game for our family - especially for our boys who can always benefit from new ways to work on coordination, body language consciousness, and collaboration with others.

The only caution I would add when playing with children is that there is a tendency for them to continuously do the same thing over and over again, even though nobody has any idea what they are trying to convey.  For that reason, we ditched the timer, and we just gave each team one subject card, and as much time as they needed to huddle, work out the game plan, and come up with a great idea to convey the thought.

When is just the boys and I we take turns where two do the acting, and then one person guesses.  It is a very tweakable game with a lot of ways to have fun. There are also Expansion Packs of cards which narrow down the subject matter.  Choose Sports, Holiday, or Girls Night In.

We played both the Junior Edition, and the Holiday Expansion Pack.  Here are the Fellas acting out some Holiday words.
