It is finally time to start thinking about Christmas (a little bit) and the movie Angels Sing is a great way to kickoff the season.  (But try not to go crazy with the decorations until we have digested Thanksgiving dinner. . . *smile*)

The main character in the story is Michael Walker and he used to love Christmas!  Love, love, loved it - and everything about it!  But that was when he was a boy, a long time ago.  Unfortunately, after a terrible and heartbreaking accident, Michael has come to hate the holiday.  He tries to let the past go.  He knows it will please his son, his wife, and especially his father - who all still love the Christmas season with all of the trimmings - but he just can't muster up any holiday cheer.

Luckily Christmas magic is for everyone, and Michael gets a little of his own.  To begin, the Walkers need to find a new home, fast.  Through a series of strange occurrences he finds his family a dream home at a ridiculously low price - a home that is the answer to all of their prayers.  The sale is made quickly over a handshake, so it isn't until the next day that Michael realizes that he just bought a house on the most Christmasy street in Texas!  The neighbors don't come by with brownies or casseroles - they bring Christmas decor!  Could this be the catalyst that helps Michael make amends with his past?

It doesn't go very well at first and there are some rather comical moments.  These are followed by some very sad times, too.  Finally, when Michael sees that his son is about to make the same mistakes that he has made, his eyes are opened to the futility of regret and the true joy of Christmas.

This is a perfect family holiday movie.  My only caution to parents is that it does involve sudden accidental death.  Worrisome children might need some special consideration. Overall the themes of love, family, and Christmas are what is prevalent.

You can catch Angels Sing in select theaters and On Demand this month and a portion of your ticket price will benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities.  There is also information available on the website for arranging your own charity screening.

If you love the movie - or can't find a theater near you - this is a great time to preorder the DVD or Blu-Ray which will be released on December 10th.

Oh, and be sure to go to the Angels Sing Facebook page (linked above) to see the fun contests.  You could win great prizes (like an iPad mini!) for sharing your best Christmas memory, your ugliest Christmas Sweater, or your amazing Christmas Decorations!

Merry Christmas!

I was invited to watch an online screener version of this movie in order to write this review.  I was not paid, and any opinions expressed are my own.
