It seems that innocence doesn't last very long any more.  Our children have a lot on their minds. They worry about bullies, fitting in, and even very young students are feeling pressure to do well on their state tests.  The constant bombardment of information can fill their heads with the news of the world - is it any surprise that this can lead to anxiety?  Television programs present a distorted view of what families, friendships, and romantic relationships should look like, so many children wonder if they measure up.

Chicken Soup for the Soul: Think Positive for Kids is a collection of 101 stories chosen because they can help combat some of these problems.  The stories are positive and uplifting and they are also great conversation starters.  Hopefully, after reading a real life story about a person who made a tough but good decision or another about standing up to a bully, kids can find the courage to do the right thing when they face similar situations.

The book has an introduction for parents and another for kids.  Then there are ten chapters that group stories that fall under these relevant topics.
  1. Try Something New
  2. Doing the Right Thing
  3. Accepting Differences
  4. Developing Self Esteem
  5. Handling Bullies
  6. Appreciating Family
  7. Making Real Friends
  8. Making Good Choices
  9. Being Responsible
  10. Being Grateful
While the book was created for kids from age seven to early teens, even adults can appreciate these stories.  They can be read together (parent and child) or apart but the stories are meant to be conversation starters.  Each one can be used as a perfect segue into a meaningful discussion.
