We had never tired anything like this Swirlio unit from Big Boss, so we were happy to give it a try.
Tax will apply to orders from CA, NJ, NV, NY. A shipping surcharge will be applied to the following locations: Puerto Rico $20.00, Alaska or Hawaii $10.00.
The first thing I did was unbox it and wash all the pieces. You can see from the photo below that all of the parts come off easily. they also reassemble with ease.
Following the diagram you see above I was able to get all the pieces back together. There is also a piece to help push the fruit through the tube which you can see on the counter beside the unit.
Once I had it all put back together, I took some frozen fruit from the freezer. If you are going to invest in a Swirlio Unit, you will want to have fruit in the freezer all the time. Freeze any leftover bits from your daily use, and grab a few bags from the grocer's freezer, too. You will especially want to buy a few extra bananas. When they are sweet and ripe, slice them, put them into a Ziploc freezer bag and have them ready for use.
We like berries, so I took out a blend of berries and cherries and allowed them to sit on the counter for about ten minutes. They need to be just slightly softened but not thawed.
When the berries were ready I set a bowl under the dispenser first. Then I placed them in the bowl on top and then used the plunger to push them down. The unit is similar to a deli grinder. It takes the ingredients, mushes them all together, and then dispenses a nice blended version of them at the bottom.
The texture was nice. Because there were some seeded berries, there were seeds in this dessert, but overall it is like a frozen yogurt dessert.
Here is a combination I made with bananas and peaches. You can see that it is a much smoother consistency. I made a large batch and kept it in the freezer so we could enjoy it for a couple of days.
I have had very nice success with the Swirlio and I like the healthy snacks that we are creating. The recipe book also shows how to make non dessert items, like adult frozen beverages beverages and guacamole - but I have not tried that yet.
Sometimes combining fruits will require a bit of a learning curve, so make a small dish first, and when you get it just right make some more.
We will get a lot of use out of this all summer long.
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
